Habitat Restore Find

So today I went to donate an old ceiling fan we had and decided to walk around the Habitat for Humanity restore. I had been in a few times but wanted to look. I realized that we haven't bought our kitchen faucet yet for our Reno (starting September 9th by the way!) and thought to take a look. 

I didn't find any JUST faucets. They were all attached to sinks. I did find this beauty though:

It's a Moen faucet with the sprayer feature for $50! They wouldn't sell me just the faucet. I can't use the sink as its not under mount and we bought a sink through the kitchen designer anyway. 

So the nice man took the faucet off the sink and sadly, he had to break the sink to get it, so it went in the trash. But I got my pretty new Moen faucet. 

Hey $50 for a Moen faucet? I will take it!

And the money went to my favorite charity. Win win.  

Hey-kitchen renos are expensive. Anyway I can save money I will try. 

Love the Habitat restore!

We also paid for our stainless steel appliances today. I am so ready for this renovation to begin. 

Here's our stove that's all I remembered to take. But we got the gallery dishwasher (I love when the controls are on the inside), microwave and dishwasher. We already have the fridge.

Weekend Recap...a day late

I hope is having a good week so far! I took a lot of pics this weekend so I figured I would do a recap. Even if its a day late :)

Saturday was my first day back with Habitat in almost 3 weeks! It was a good break but I'm ready for another house. 

I painted the closet. And got a blister :(

Then I rode Shirley and cleaned the house. 

Sunday when Matt got home from teaching (Sunday he books lots of golf lessons) and we decided to go for a walk on the beach. A nice part of our house is being less then 5 miles from the beach. 

Someone wrote in the sand so I stood in the heart :)

Then we went to Orange Leaf for ice cream :) I love the spoons. 

Good weekend. Yes. 

Our new living room furniture!

I am so excited. So so excited. Why? Because we bought a new living room set!

This is exciting for us because for the past 2 years we've been married we have been using a leather chair that was given to us (with an ottoman) and a couch we bought from ikea when we first  got married....and neither match. 

I have a love/hate relationship with ikea. Our couch has been through 3 moves, lots of people sleeping on it...it's been a good couch. But now. It's time to get rid of it. 

So what are we replacing this couch with? We got a set consisting of a sofa, love seat and chaise! 

It's from Badcock and its called the 'Mahalo' as there is a couch that has the same pattern as the accent pillows shown in the picture available. We opted out of that for the love seat. The pattern isn't our style. 

At first I wasn't sure of the color so Matt suggested I get a ton of paint color strips and we hold it against the color to make sure it would go with many wall colors, and it passed the test :). 

Now because of it, I have a new color I am painting our hallway with. But that's for another post :)

Its funny how something as a living room set can feel so validating! It arrives July 29. 

As for the ikea couch? We are donating it to Habitat for Humanity. I hope someone gets great use out of it. 

Speaking of Habitat, I am ready for August 3 as that is when the next house starts for the team I'm on :). 

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. It's a 3 day weekend for me. I am taking tomorrow off to get some stuff done with Matt (as he's off Mondays).

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was pretty uneventful but that's ok :) sadly Saturday was my last day of Habitat until August. This house is done. The next isn't until August 10th. What am I going to do with myself?

Anyways. I am living my recent pins :) hope everyone has a great Monday. 

TJMaxx Haul and Habitat for Humanity

I have a love/hate relationship with Tjmaxx. 

I love their deals, selection and ours here is a great location. 

I hate the layout, the tiny fitting rooms and the crowd it generates. Also it has sooo many Ralph Lauren polo shirts, logoed cable knit sweaters and pony T-shirts. We get it. They make it affordable. But is a whole section of the store devoted to 'the pony' necessary? Just an observation. 

Anyway. 

Back home in NC in my small town, a Tjmaxx came to the mall. It's hard to call it a mall, it's not good at all. Now, it wasn't a big store by any means, but it was good. And it was a big deal to the town. I mean. Huge. 

Now here in FL we have pretty much 2 of everything. It is grand. It's nice not having to drive 45 minutes to another town for something. 

So after I volunteered at Habitat for Humanity this morning, I stopped into TJmaxx. As suspected, it was pretty crowded but I was able to find some good stuff and was able to navigate the crowd. 

Today at Habitat it was yard work day. We pulled up the dead old grass with a special rake, and then applied round up. The landscape expert (Yes. They have one) is going to roll out the new grass tomorrow. The appliances also went in, which of course was exciting to all of us ladies ;)

I have been volunteering every Saturday. I should blog about it more to get more awareness of this great organization I have been apart of for so long. 

Back to TJmaxx.....my big score was this mint green Kate Spade wristlet for $49.99. More of a luxury then a need but I love it. I also picked up this cute striped dress (perfect for FL weather!) and this

polka dot top.

Trailer Ride//Weekend Wrap-up

Being a horse owner isn't just about riding and taking care of your horse-but it's about taking care of your stuff as well.

The hubs and I realized that our horse trailer hasn't gone on a ride in about a year. Oops. We decided to take it for a drive and make sure all was working properly. We took it for a ride down the street and back and hubs also wanted to practice backing it up (harder then it seems!)

Turns out he is great at backing up the trailer and all is working fine. Ever since I stopped showing after the wedding, the trailer seemed to have gotten forgotten a bit. We have made the resolution to make sure we take better care of it so it will last for years to come.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I volunteered with Habitat again yesterday, and I learned how to measure and cut tile and learned how to operate a tile saw! This will come in handy when we tile our new laundry room (more on all that later). We also spent a lot of time cleaning of course I rode :)

Do Good.

We all know I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and that I love it. Well today was another volunteer day! It makes me so happy.


Today we installed wire lath. What is that? Well it's a wire material instead before installing stucco to a house. Stucco is so common in Florida. Our house is stucco.

I had so much fun. It was the same crew as always and it's a blast. The best part? I got to use more power tools ;) we focused on the area on the screened in porch around the sliding glass door.

As a little girl I dreamed of being a princess (sigh....Kate) and I was always told that a princess has one duty-"do good." I try to apply this to my life whenever I can....and it feels great. I can't wait to volunteer again next week! I am thankful for the friendships I've gained and also for the mentors who have taught me useful (and free!) skills I can use as a homeowner.

Naturally...photos from today. I cut the wire piece (and learned how to measure it using a chalk line tool-so awesome) and then drilled screws.

Habitat for Humanity

This morning, I had the pleasure of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. I signed up online, joined a 7:30-12 shift (which actually ended up being until 11:30) and showed up ready to go!

I think it's important to give back to the community. As little or as much as you can do. I cannot wait to go back on the 16th and work with this group again! I also needed to get out and meet more people in our city. Even though I have been here almost a year, sometimes I still feel like I don't know anyone.

One of the new reforms with the organization is trying to buy foreclosed homes and fixing them up, instead of building. They are doing this to prevent the new homeowners from being singled out, and also to increase awareness, and to use what is existing.

As a new homeowner, I am always welcome to any kind of renovation/work advice I can get.

I had a great time. I wasn't sure what I was going to be doing, but I was willing to jump in and do whatever is needed (I tend to be like this in other situations of life as well). I got asked if I would help installing baseboards, and I immediately said yes!

Baseboards are not an easy task...lots of measuring, cutting (repeat over and over) then my favorite part-STAPLE GUN! :)
